The M.D.E.A. is charged with enforcing the criminal laws of the State of Maine. Its mission is to aggressively work to reduce the flow of illicit drugs into and throughout the state. Special agents and task force supervisors of the MDEA are recruited from the ranks of the State's municipal police departments, sheriff's offices, and the state police. The officers are given their authority by the Commissioner of Public Safety.
