Sheriff

Sheriff Darrell O. Crandall began his career with the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office, as a jail guard, in 1985. He moved to rural patrol duties the following year, and was later assigned to the state drug enforcement unit where he stayed for more than twenty years. He worked as an investigative agent, was promoted and supervised field operations for twelve years and finished his last eight years in the unit as Division Commander. In the summer of 2013, Darrell accepted the position of Chief Deputy Sheriff and was subsequently elected Sheriff in November of 2014. Darrell and his leadership team have focused great efforts on inmate programming, crisis management training for all staff and building a culture of collaborative, proactive problem solving. Darrell lives in Houlton with his wife Jane. They have three children.

He started as an officer in the jail, worked as a transport deputy and later a patrol deputy before being assigned to the state drug enforcement unit in 2001, where he remained for more than twelve years. Shawn was promoted there and supervised field operations his final seven years, also serving on the state’s drug lab enforcement team. Shawn left the drug unit in January of 2015, when Sheriff Crandall appointed him Chief Deputy Sheriff. Shawn is the second in command for the Sheriff’s Office, and also directly oversees the civil division, support services unit, community corrections unit and the state’s only active Crimestoppers program. Shawn lives with his wife Amy in Blaine. They have three children.
